My Life As A T. Y. B. Com`ite In Podar:

This year started as usual with a resolution that " I will study from the very first day of college". This is a resolution many of us make but, to date none has kept it. Anyway it started off with our Computer Lectures and let me tell you it was soooo boring and frightening. I thought my last year in the college would be a total loss. As I was the co-ordinator of the Career & Employment Guidance Forum in the college, I wanted to continue with it. But then my friends Rohan, Neeraj & Shankar decided that they had enough of it last year and decided to quit C. E. G. F. But I could count on my friend Aanand to be with me ( although he did many nakhras). It was turning out to be a boring year with no fun at all and those long hours of doing nothing in the canteen.

But then we made new friends (not exactly new as we had known them earlier) in the N. S. S , and our base shifted to the N. S. S room. It was then that the memorable times of my last year in college started. It was the same not so long hours of chit-chatting, but the difference was the new friends we had made. As myself and Aanand were already part of the N. S. S we also participated in a lot?? of projects, the first being the Anti Ragging Campaign. We had a lot of fun doing this. We were distributed in batches and we had to prevent the F. Y. J. C`ites from being ragged. We made a lot of new friends and enjoyed ourselves a lot.

Then we had our annual Computer Batch Picnic. It was at the same place where we had been last year, Manori Beach. We were few in number but not in actions. As usual Crack Priya entertained us by banging her head(she calls it so!!) to a beam and it started bleeding. We had to rush her to the only doctor available and she was bandaged. Charmi got unconscious after seeing this. But it was all well in the end. We had a lot of fun there especially in the water. The Priyas and Uthra had made preperations for the food and I got the bus. All finances were handled by Chindyani Jimmy.

Then it was MALHAR time and Myself, Rohan & Aanand were back to practicing Dumb Charades. And guess what! We made it to the finals among the top eight from fifty colleges from all over India, and again we came fourth there too!! But making it to the finals of MALHAR was a big achievement on our part.

Then came Quizstock 98, the intercollegiate quiz festival organized by Quizzers` League of which Rohan is the Sec. We all helped him a lot for which he gave us certificates. It was a mega success with 38 colleges turning up.

Our C. E. G. F activities were going on when the teachers strike started. This again stagnated all the activities in Podar. But we could not just sit at home doing nothing. I joined the Ganpati Committee. Kaustubh, Pushkar, Madhura and myself planned everything with active support from all our friends. It was a really tough job on deciding what to do. But with a lot of determination we did it and it turned out to be a great success. We made all the designs, bought all the thermocol and other materials required for the Temple which we were supposed to make. We made the temple and it was really great. All of us enjoyed all the time as we worked day and night. We stayed overnight in college for two consecutive days.

This year because of the teachers strike we didn’t have a Diwali Vacation. It was good in a way, as we got more time to spend with each other(as if we were not going to spend time if there was a vacation!!).

By the end of the vacation the N. S. S had to organize a Rural Rehabilitation Camp. Pushkar, K. D & Madhura were fully into it and had planned out the whole thing. It was a ten day camp. K. D had to go for all the ten days but for Pushkar, Aanand and myself had to go only for five days. But those five days were some of the best times I had ever had. We did a lot of work for the village "CHANDIP" near Virar. We had gone under the Nirmiti Youth Foundation, which is a foundation for the development of that village. The village is distributed into two parts called Padas , viz., Tabalepada & Dongarpada . The village was a beautiful place. We were with the all the time nature. We did work like, painting the schools in the village, distributing biscuits to the village children, playing with them, cutting of wild grass, etc. But one of the features of this camp was that it made all of us self dependant. Each person had to do his or her own work. We had to clean our dishes, wash our clothes(which we ofcourse avoided), make our food, etc. Especially the cooking of the food was a major task with all of us sitting together to make the chapaties and making them in all shapes and sizes. All the boys had to take a bath in the open with a pipe of cold water. But it was the most enjoyable part of it. We made new friends during the camp but the one I would like to mention is Archis Sahastrabuddhe. He was one guy who never stopped talking. He used to entertain all of us by his witty, perverse, sometimes sick but original quotes. He made our time at the camp better than what would have been without him. Everybody was so free and all of us really mixed together in a short period of time. The nights were really the best times when we put toothpaste on the hair and faces of people who were asleep. And what made life worse for them was the cold climate in the morning where temperatures dropped below 10m Centigrade. Between those five days I had to go to K. D`s place for a night. I felt really at home with his parents being really very nice to me.

Then came the Rose Day. All of us were present there in out suits and saris inspite of just coming back form the five days of the camp and we had a hell of a time. We danced the whole time and had a lot of fun. We clicked a lot of snaps of all of us and at the end of the day were really tired of getting clicked. That evening we all went to Shivaji Park and had a lot of fun there too.

Then was the annual Rostrum Finals. We all helped our friends who were involved in organizing such a mega event.

After Rose Day came RAPPORT-98 (R. A. Podar`s Presentation Of Rising Talent) the event which we were all waiting for. It was a really good time during RAPPORT. Rohan was the section head for Literary events, Aanand was the event head for Western F&M Quiz, Pushkar & K.D. were event heads for Handminton. All our events were really great successes, but the fun part was that we all enjoyed together. It was the first time that I played Cricket on the ground opposite our college and handminton in a real match. I will never forget how we used to sit in the corner of the auditorium and think of stupid ideas. One good thing RAPPORT did was that it got both the computer and N. S. S groups together. We danced together especially on BRAZIL, I still remember the steps. The last day of RAPPORT was the best and it was also sentimental with Aarti & Eshwar crying.

Then came the new years eve. Preparations were on in full flow from the last day of RAPPORT itself. But for some reasons we could not have a combine party of the N. S. S group and the Computer Batch. We went with the Computer Batch at Kartik`s place in Mysore Colony and the N. S. S group had a party at Shibani`s place. All of us had a really great time, but I had really wished that we were all together. Anyway we at Kartiks place had a great time with I getting the food from Dadar Club. We danced to D.J Aanand`s tunes. We had five cars and we all went to drop Rohan to the church. We celebrated New Year at Ambedkar Udyan on our cars. Then at around 2:00am. we went to Shibani`s place where we also danced and played some games. They also told us the fun they did there. They made a human chain and ran all round the colony and Manasi was made to look like a ghost (no extra efforts.).

As the exams drew closer we started studying. But all was not over as yet. The Annual day was the last event of the year with the highpoint that ten of our group member were nominated for the LIGHTS OF PODAR awards. They were Aanand, Rohan, Pushkar, K. D, Madhura, Priya P, Priya V, Rishikesh, Sheetal & myself. Our principal handed out the mementos to all the Lights Of Podars. Then he sung the song "I Love Podar" in his own special way. There was a musical skit performed by the juniors accompanied by a Funtastic Fashion Show. We wrote on tshirts filled up our slam books and danced our way to glory. I will never forget the P. Js I told on stage on that day.

Then it was the turn of the Annual Prize Distribution. Madhura got the coveted Outstanding Students Award for the year 1998-99. It was a proud moment for all of us. The Principals Special Awards were also given to Aanand, Rohan, Pushkar, K. D, Madhura, Priya P, Priya V, Rishikesh, Sheetal & myself. All of us were given a medal and a certificate. Our Principal R. R. Sahuraja also made a mention of the activities that we did, and that made us all proud. We were there in our suits and blazers. As usual there were many photographs clicked. Madhura also got numerous other prizes on that day. This was truly the last function in the college.

Now my life in Podar is coming to an end. I sit in the reading hall studying(??). Many of my friends accompany me to do this sorrowful act. I will never forget our times in the computer lab, N. S. S room, the canteen and the reading hall. But let me tell you all, I will never regret joining PODAR and whatever I did here. I really wanna thank all my friends for whatever they have done for me.
